Submit Biospecimens and Datasets

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's Biologic Specimen Repository (NHLBI Biorepository) is an "open" scientific resource. The mission of the Biorepository is to acquire quality biospecimen collections and data from NHLBI funded clinical studies and make them available using standardized procedures to qualified investigators at no cost, other than the cost of shipping biospecimens to the research facility.

The submission of Study biospecimens to the NHLBI Biorepository and Data Repository for long term storage and distribution is by application only. Applications are subject to review and assessment by an NHLBI review group made up of representatives from each Extramural Division. The application and review process is detailed in Section 5.0 of the BioLINCC Handbook. The process can take up to twelve months from the application submission date to complete. Of note, biospecimens cannot be transferred to the Biorepository before the Study data are transferred to the NHLBI Data Repository.

NHLBI Studies interested in submitting an application should contact their NHLBI Program Officer at least 18 months prior to the end of the Study funding period to discuss the application requirements.

Applications are accepted two times a year. Next application submission deadline:

Tuesday February 21, 2023

The submission process is initiated at the Biospecimen Collection Application page, and the documents described in Section 5.3.2 of the BioLINCC Handbook are required.
